Point Blank (1967) - John Boorman
Okay -- got a story first before I go into this, I used to work at an incredible video store, watched a lot of movies, especially old Hollywood. There was this GUY who owned the place, he would constantly hype this film, "Ohh you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor."

Well -- I watched this Scorcese on Scorcese documentary, and he was going through movies that had influnced himself -- and this film came up... Again, I was like, you know what, I should check this out...
I rented the film and that was it...
This is the best film of the 60s, this might be the best movie ever -- as a big Reservoir Dogs fan I saw the suits (and later a Suzuki fan) I made the connection... But this film KICKS ASS -- literally, everybody gets their ass-kicked or gets dead, I aint joking either...
Lee Marvin plays Walker, and after getting double-crossed in the beginning by a friend, he's shot and left for dead... Walker survives (possibly?) and goes from the lowest to the highest rank, kicking ass, killing all the way to the top of a criminal organization...
Look I could go on about this movie, just go out and watch it, but I will say this:
1. This 60s noir piece is a tribute to the era -- psychedelic, violent, cruel, misleading, optimistic, misunderstood, it has amazing editing and a sense of style only seen in French and Japanese films of the same era...
2. Violence -- the fight scene in the club with the James Brown like singer is, in my mind, one of the greatest fight scenes ever -- it plays out real, random, messy, like a real fight, dangerous, cruel, violent...
3. Cool -- Lee Marvin is the master of cool, tailored suits, few words, that Marvin face -- no emotion...
4. Editing -- there are sequences in this film that are so inspirational, the use of sound as well, footsteps, gun shots...
5. Hallucinations and The Ending -- watch the film, you will see that like most great works, there is something else going on here, I actually was explained a theory involving Walker and his current physical state during the movie, I don't want to say much more...
Watch it!
