The Hobbit Movie

So let me get this right it would be a mistake to cram everything into one move but in the first films it was what Peter Jackson wanted. I am sorry but I really have issue with this reasoning. If Rankin Bass could make the hobbit in 90 min (and I know it totally different media) why can't Peter Jackson and Co make the hobbit into one movie?
Now let’s discuss Guillermo Del Toro as the director of the Hobbit.
I am really having a hard time with this not because I don't like Del Toro quite the contrary he is one of my favorite directors. My problem is I don't know how Del Toro and Jackson will work together. They both have there own style of making films both have there own visions of how everything should be but if Jackson is the boss how much control will Del Toro have. Will he use allot of CGI or will he do puppeteers for some of the characters. Will Jackson have the final say or will he give Del Toro free reign over this?
My opinion would be no what Jackson says goes, how will Del Toro react to this is what I can't wait for.
Let’s go back to Del Toro vision of this film; what I can't wait to see is how he will design the elves. Look below at these two pictures

Two different styles of elves two different interpretations of what an elves should look like. How will Del Toro take to this? He has in his mind what they will look like will he change that because of Jackson vision?
What about the Dragon Smog who has the final say in his design?
I could go on forever and a day with these types of questions but I will leave you with this.
This movie could be one of the greatest films made but when you have two different types of directors whose visions are on the opposite sides of the spectrum it becomes a crap shoot.
